GAMBIER, Ohio
– Ursuline was officially crowned as the title winner at the inaugural Great Midwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Kenyon College.

The Arrows cleaned up the individual awards as voted upon by the league’s coaches, earning G-MAC Freshman of the Year (Tori Abdul), G-MAC Athlete of the Year (Bea Indurain) and acceptance of G-MAC Coach of the Year (Maddy Outman).

Led by Indurain, the winner of four different events, Ursuline controlled the six-team leaderboard with 211.5 points. Cedarville’s middle distance prowess was on full display as it came in as the runner-up with 142 points.

Kentucky Wesleyan freshman thrower Crystal Hopkins established herself as the G-MAC Field Athlete of the Year with a shot put heave of nearly 13 meters. Despite being smaller in height than most of the competition, Hopkins’ powerful form and explosion through her lower base stole the show in throws.

Trevecca Nazarene (48), Alderson Broaddus (26), Central State (17) and Kentucky Wesleyan (17.5), rounded out the team scoring, respectively.

The G-MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships were housed in the spacious Toan Athletic Complex. Fans and student-athletes enjoyed the amenities and atmosphere as field events got underway at 11 a.m. and the last relay race finished shortly after 6 p.m.

Indurain’s impeccable technique and overall skill was showcased in the long jump, triple jump, 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash. She won all four events, waiving a number of field attempts after nailing her winning marks early in the competition.

Abdul triumphed in the 400-meter dash by nearly three seconds and turned plenty of heads while anchoring the Arrows’ 4x400-meter relay winning effort. She made up considerable distance to complete a come-from-behind victory as the last runner.

Ursuline also got a boost in the final points with a 200-meter dash victory from Keyana Roberts.

Cross country standouts from the fall again took center stage in middle distance, including Trevecca Nazarene’s Caroline Hampton (3,000 meter) and Biz Mclendon (5,000 meter).

Additionally, Cedarville’s Carson Koch was a two-time winner in the 800-meter run and the high jump, effectively clearing 1.60 meters. The Yellow Jackets had another distance winner with Olivia Esbenshade blazing to a 5:11.47 time in the mile.

Field activities led things off with Cedarville’s Tiera Martinelli winning the first event of the day in the pole vault. A trio of freshmen and a sophomore also paced Cedarville to a win in the distance medley relay.
