OVU’s Walker’s Season-High Point Total Leads to Athlete of the Week

GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the second time this year, shooting guard Darryl Walker of Ohio Valley was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week as announced on Monday.

Walker poured in a season-high 33 points in a shortened week for the Fighting Scots, ultimately derailing regular-season conference championship aspirations for then-league leading Central State.

Ohio Valley’s Saturday home contest originally scheduled against Cedarville was postponed due to weather. The two teams will match up tonight in Vienna.

On Thursday, Walker was 11-of-20 from the field while grabbing seven rebounds against Central State as he stayed on the court for all 40 possible minutes. He also handed out three assists and recorded a steal and nailed two shots from long distance.

At home in Vienna, the Fighting Scots recorded their sixth conference win against the Marauders and are bound for the postseason in the six-team G-MAC Championship.

This year, he has scored 30 points or more three times, including a 30-point effort against Cedarville on Jan. 22 and a 32-point outburst against Bluefield State earlier this month.

Walker spearheads the G-MAC’s new top-scoring offense (77.1 points per game), overtaking Salem International, and the junior guard regained the title of the conference’s top scorer.

Through 21 games, Walker is averaging 18.6 points per contest and is getting it done on the glass as the G-MAC’s sixth-best rebounder (7.1 rpg).
