GREENWOOD, Ind. – Trevecca Nazarene senior forward Matt Gamberoni was named the sixth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for 2015-16 on Monday.
Gamberoni was consistent and averaged over 20 points and 10 rebounds during three contests this past week, including a pair tough losses by razor-thin margins at a Maryville-hosted holiday tournament.
The Trojans played those three games in just four days starting with a home win against Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) on Thursday. TNU was also edged in overtime vs. UMSL by three points and Maryville escaped with a two-point win on Sunday.
Gamberoni, a skilled 6-10 French lefty with a soft touch around the rim, buried 24 of his 35 shots from the field at nearly 69 percent on the week.
He also totaled 30 rebounds and had four blocks (1.3 bpg) and four steals (1.3 spg).
Gamberoni had 22 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks against SJC, locking down the paint with precision on 11-of-15 shooting.
Gamberoni’s 16 rebounds vs. the Pumas came close to his own G-MAC season-best of 18 grabbed earlier in the year against Shorter (Nov. 20).
Versus UMSL, Gamberoni did more of his damage at the foul stripe, accounting for eight of his 18 on free throws. He drained 5-of-6 field goal attempts and added seven boards.
The Trojans went down to the wire with Maryville as Gamberoni did his part with 21 points and seven rebounds.
In 11 games played this season, Gamberoni is averaging 13.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per contest. He is tied for fourth in the league in rebounding and ranks third in field-goal percentage (.579).
