12.14.15

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Davis & Elkins junior guard Stephanie Wooten was named the fifth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for 2015-16 on Monday.

In 34 minutes, Wooten dropped 37 points and had seven assists -- her third game of scoring 30 points or more this season -- in the Senators’ lone game of the week against Fairmont State.

This is Wooten’s second conference athlete of the week selection and she continues to lead the G-MAC in scoring at 22.6 points per game.

The junior lefty Wooten was 14-of-29 overall from the field including 6-of-12 from long range against the Falcons. Her six three-point field goals were a 2015-16 high so far.

She matched her season-best assist total for the third time this season and also grabbed four rebounds.

Wooten scoring prowess has been on display multiple times this season as she erupted for 40 points vs. Wisconsin-Parkside and 31 against Indiana-Kokomo earlier in the year.

Wooten has led D&E in scoring for seven of the team’s nine games this year.

In nine games played, she is shooting over 45 percent from the field, nearly 82 percent from the free-throw line and over 38 percent from long distance. Wooten is also averaging 4.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 4.1 rebounds, per contest.
