G-MAC Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week (Nov. 9)

11.9.15

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Cedarville senior defender Carly Gregory was named the final Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.

The Yellow Jackets completed an improbable run through the G-MAC Championship bracket as the No. 4 seed, upending No. 1 Davis & Elkins in the semis before beating No. 3 Ursuline in the final.

Cedarville secured the G-MAC’s first automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Championship and became the fourth G-MAC school to win a tournament title in as many years.

The Yellow Jackets will learn of their regional destination during this evening’s NCAA selection show.

Gregory was instrumental in Cedarville’s lockdown defensive efforts, roaming around midfield to help slow down some of the league’s biggest offensive scoring threats.

She crashed the box with 21 seconds remaining in the first half in the final, capitalizing on a corner kick by Kaleigh Rowlands to provide the only goal of the game.

It was her sixth goal of the season and is one of four players on Cedarville to start and play in all 21 possible games.

The Yellow Jackets extended their postseason run to head into the national tournament with a 13-4-4 overall record.
