G-MAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week (Nov. 9)

11.9.15

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Cedarville junior goalkeeper Paulo Pinto was named the final Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.

Pinto helped the Yellow Jackets secure their third consecutive G-MAC Championship trophy, leading Cedarville defensively in two playoff games.

Pinto helped slow down No. 4 Ohio Valley in semifinal action while preserving a 4-2 shootout decision to advance No. 1 Cedarville past No. 2 Alderson Broaddus in Saturday’s final.

Against Ohio Valley, Pinto stopped three strikes on target as part of the Fighting Scots’ 11 total shots.

He made two more saves against Alderson Broaddus and the Battlers only managed to fire five total shots, a testament to the Yellow Jackets’ defensive effort as a unit.

Pinto has yielded just 15 goals in 19 games this season, compiling a G-MAC-best goals against average of 0.80. He has logged almost 1,700 minutes on the field tending net.

The Yellow Jackets, already ranked fourth in the Midwest Region for three consecutive weeks, enhanced their chances for making the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional as an at-large selection.

Cedarville will learn of its postseason destination following the NCAA selection show this evening. The Yellow Jackets are 14-3-2 overall and wrapped up the conference regular-season title with a 10-2-0 record.
