GREENWOOD, Ind. – Davis & Elkins junior guard Stephanie Wooten was named the third Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for 2015-16 on Monday.
Wooten’s early-season scoring outburst continued as the Senators secured their first win of the season in non-conference action against Indiana-Kokomo during the past week.
She erupted for 31 points at Indiana-Kokomo, just a few days removed from her 40-point offensive showcase put on against Wisconsin-Parkside.
Davis & Elkins stormed to a 23-point margin of victory as Wooten balanced out the box score with a near triple-double in just 29 minutes on the floor with six rebounds, six assists and no turnovers.
She connected on 13-of-17 shots from the floor and made a trio of three-point shots. She also chipped in two free throws as three players ended up scoring in double figures for D&E.
Wooten’s 40-point single-game effort was the third-best offensive scoring output in the G-MAC’s young history. The all-time record is 45 held by Demetria Nunley-Lash (Central State) back in February of 2014.
Wooten has been the team’s leading scorer in five of six games and leads the conference in scoring at 22 points per game.
As a point guard, she is also shooting nearly 50 percent on all field-goal attempts, sixth in the league. She is currently tied for the G-MAC lead in assists (4.0) and free-throw percentage (.875).
Wooten also ranks fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.410).
