2015 G-MAC All-Conference Men's Soccer Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – A total of 28 student-athletes from seven schools comprised the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer All-Conference Team as announced by the league on Wednesday.

The announcement comes prior to the G-MAC Championship semifinals to be played in Cedarville between the top-seeded Yellow Jackets, No. 2 Alderson Broaddus, No. 4 Ohio Valley and No. 6 Davis & Elkins.

Voting for the G-MAC All-Conference Team was tabulated through the league’s head coaches.

Alderson Broaddus led the way with seven student-athletes on either the first, second or all-freshman team. Cedarville finished with six honored while Ohio Valley placed five.

Eleven student-athletes were named to the All-G-MAC First Team and Second Team while eight more honored to the all-freshman team.

The only two student-athletes to be named to multiple teams were Alderson Broaddus rookie Jose Tabares-Ochoa and Ohio Valley’s Ignacio Gonzalez.

Individual winners were also announced as offensive and defensive players of the year and freshman of the year were selected along with the coach of the year.

G-MAC Offensive Player of the Year
Connor Gilmour
Cedarville University
Senior
Forward

Cedarville’s Connor Gilmour brought home another G-MAC Offensive Player of the Year honor after a record-breaking campaign that has catapulted him into All-American consideration.

Gilmour keys a high-octane offense for the Yellow Jackets, who have been ranked fourth in the NCAA Midwest Region while pursuing an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship.

The senior forward was also tabbed the 2014 G-MAC Offensive Player of the Year and was the league leader in points (34) and goals (16).

In terms of career credentials, Gilmour is now the G-MAC’s career leader in goals scored with 42 and recently became the conference’s all-time points leader with 94.

He was also a selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team that was announced recently.

G-MAC Defensive Player of the Year
Alec Andall
Alderson Broaddus
Junior
Defender

Andall has anchored the Battlers’ stingy defense while doubling up as a deadly go-to penalty kick specialist to contribute on the offensive end.

The Battlers have played their way into the NCAA Midwest Region rankings and have enjoyed a 10-win campaign in the season to date.

The AB defense has pitched three shutouts and have been on the winning end of three overtime contests. Andall has played in 17 total games with 16 starts and logged a team-high 1,363 minutes throughout the fall.

He has been a perfect 4-4 on PK’s while taking 14 shots all year. His value to the program goes well beyond the box score for AB head coach Scott Phipps, who received conference accolades of his own.

G-MAC Coach of the Year
Scott Phipps
Alderson Broaddus

After going 8-10-1 in his first season with the program, Phipps has elevated the Battlers to the next level with a 10-6-1 record in the year-to-date.

While his squad gears up to face Davis & Elkins in the G-MAC Championship semifinals, the Battlers placed four on the all-conference first team, including Deshawn Parker, Marco Profumo, Andall and Ricard Lao.

Phipps took the Battlers to a No. 16 ranking earlier this season in the NSCAA Top-25 Poll while tying a nationally-ranked Tiffin program and giving then-No. 5 Charleston all it could handle in Philippi.

The Battlers started out the year as winners in five of their first six and have their sights set on advancing to Saturday’s conference tournament final.

G-MAC Freshman of the Year
Ignacio Gonzalez
Ohio Valley
Freshman
Forward

Gonzalez has been the ringleader of a group of newcomers that has charged a transformation into the Ohio Valley program.

Winless a year ago, the Fighting Scots have carved out nine victories this season and have already won one postseason game in the G-MAC Championship quarterfinals.

Gonzalez has started in all 15 games played in this year and leads the Fighting Scots with 16 points. He has scored four goals and netted six assists.

Gonzalez has one game-winning goal vs. Kentucky Wesleyan while being credited with a pair of game-tying goals and converting his only PK opportunity.

The OVU rookie has been an efficient playmaker all year and after beating Trevecca Nazarene in double overtime last weekend, the Fighting Scots are gearing up to face Cedarville on Thursday.
