GREENWOOD, Ind. – Davis & Elkins sophomore defender Mads Kaiser was named the ninth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.
Kaiser lifted the Senators in big moments with two goals as D&E advanced through the first round of the G-MAC Championship as the proverbial underdog.
Kaiser, from Rheinberg, Germany, concluded the regular season in dramatic fashion by sending Davis & Elkins home with a win in double overtime against Alderson Broaddus.
D&E climbed out of a 1-0 deficit against the Battlers by tying the game late in regulation. Kaiser came through in the 107th minute in unassisted fashion as the Senators collected their fourth G-MAC win.
His game winner gave D&E the sixth and final seed in the conference tournament, setting up a quarterfinal showdown at favored No. 3 Salem International.
The Senators were sound fundamentally and handed SIU a 3-0 loss on its home pitch, netting all of their goals in the second half.
Kaiser scored the first of three D&E goals at the 56:07 juncture to set up a G-MAC Championship semifinal date against No. 2 Alderson Broaddus on Thursday in Cedarville.
The Senators will carry a 7-8-2 overall record into Thursday’s contest at 7:30 p.m. EST.
