GREENWOOD, Ind. – Trevecca Nazarene junior outside hitter/middle blocker Katelyn Atkinson was named the 11th Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.
It marked the third honor of the fall season for the alone for the accomplished Trojan, assuredly marking TNU as a dangerous draw in the conference tournament this week.
The Trojans are winners in five straight and haven’t lost a set in that stretch. Their latest sweep in straight sets came against Kentucky Wesleyan to conclude the regular season on Saturday.
TNU earned the No. 2 seed from the Blue Division in the G-MAC standings and open the postseason against Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in quarterfinals.
Atkinson hammered 13 kills in three sets against the Panthers as TNU improved to 17-11 and 7-3 in the G-MAC.
She attached with a .393 percentage and had seven digs to go with four assists and three blocks in TNU’s lone match of the week.
Less than 10 kills separate Atkinson from Ohio Valley’s Alyx Henry for the title of G-MAC career record holder in kills.
Heading into the G-MAC Championship, Atkinson has 1,245 while Henry is at 1,254. The pair will duel for solo possession of the record as seniors since they have another year of eligibility left.
Atkinson ranked second in the G-MAC in hitting percentage (.276), first in total kills and kills per set (4.42) and eighth in digs (2.97).
