GREENWOOD, Ind. – Alderson Broaddus sophomore forward Marco Profumo was named the fifth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.
Profumo and his teammates enjoyed a 2-0 week -- all on the road -- as the Battlers toppled Davis & Elkins and spoiled homecoming for No. 24 Cedarville.
Profumo snapped a 1-1 tie in the first half against Cedarville in the 26th minute. The sophomore assisted another AB score in the 77th minute that gave the Battlers a 4-1 lead at the time.
Alderson Broaddus prevailed by a 4-2 decision and handed Davis & Elkins a 2-1 defeat on the Senators' home pitch earlier in the week.
Alderson Broaddus upped its season record to 8-1-1 while pulling even with Cedarville at the top of the conference standings at 5-1-0.
Profumo has played in all nine games appeared in this fall. He has three goals and two assists in the season scoresheet.
AB’s next tests are big ones in the form of No. 1 Charleston visiting Philippi on Wednesday and then playing host to Cedarville for their second season meeting on Saturday.
AB and Charleston enter the mid-week non-conference showdown with identical records. UC’s top ranking in the next national poll is in jeopardy after a loss to Wheeling Jesuit last week.
