GREENWOOD, Ind. – The fourth and sixth seeds both advanced through the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship quarterfinal round on Saturday.

The stage is set for Thursday’s semifinals in Cedarville with the field of six officially trimmed down to four teams remaining.

No. 1 Cedarville and No. 2 Alderson Broaddus were able to sit back and watch after receiving first-round byes.

Making early noise in the bracket, No. 6 Davis & Elkins served an upset on the home pitch of No. 3 Salem International to eliminate the Tigers from postseason contention.

The Senators scored all three goals in the second half as they eventually broke through the SIU defense in shutout fashion. As the No. 6 seed, D&E was not favored, but after Salem International completed the regular-season sweep, the playoff win was redemption.

Mads Kaiser, Frederik Hedemark and Olivier Bienias, all scored goals for D&E.

Salem International saw its season come to a close with a 9-8-1 overall record. D&E will face second-seeded Alderson Broaddus in the semis on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

In the early game, No. 4 Ohio Valley flexed its muscle and fended off a valiant effort from upset-minded No. 5 Trevecca Nazarene in double overtime.

The Fighting Scots continued a remarkable turnaround season after going 0-17-0 a year ago, riding both goals from the foot of Mina Ayaid.

Ayaid broke open a 1-1 tie in the 108th minute following a game-tying goal from TNU’s Jeremiah Wright in the first half. The Trojans ended their season with a 7-10-0 record.

OVU now faces top seed and regular-season champion Cedarville on Thursday. Start time is set for 5 p.m. EST. The Fighting Scots improved to 9-7-1 overall on the season.
