Cedarville Places Two on CoSIDA Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team

10.29.15

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Cedarville’s Jared Newman and Connor Gilmour both landed 2015 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team honors as announced on Thursday.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Gilmour and Newman, both seniors, have played integral roles for the Yellow Jackets, who are ranked fourth in the Midwest Region and wrapped up the fall Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular-season title already.

Gilmour has registered a 3.47 GPA in environmental science at Cedarville while Newman has produced a 3.95 GPA while pursuing his degree in electrical engineering.

The Academic All-District™ teams include the student-athletes listed on the pages above and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA recognizes four teams - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-District Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

Previously, CoSIDA recognized a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I); with the four teams, CoSIDA has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.

The Division II and Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.

First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
