GREENWOOD, Ind. – Playoff soccer begins this weekend as the dust from the regular season settled last night to form a new Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship bracket.
The road to the G-MAC’s first NCAA Championship automatic qualifying bid will run through Elkins, W.Va., where Davis & Elkins will host the conference tournament semifinals and final on Nov. 5, 7 next week.
Six teams have punched their ticket into the postseason and quarterfinal conference tournament action begins on Saturday, Oct. 31, on the respective campuses of Ursuline and Cedarville.
Defending conference champion and No. 3 seed Ursuline will get the early game Saturday at noon against No. 6 Alderson Broaddus in Pepper Pike, Ohio.
The winner will advance to face Kentucky Wesleyan next Thursday.
The No. 4-seeded Yellow Jackets of Cedarville drew No. 5 Trevecca Nazarene for a 2 p.m. EST showdown, also on Saturday.
The winner will move on to face Davis & Elkins next Thursday in the semis.
The top-seeded Senators (14-3-0, 12-2-0 G-MAC) clinched one of two first-round byes by sealing the league’s regular-season title on Saturday. D&E has eclipsed preseason expectations of being sixth in the coaches poll.
D&E will play the early semifinal on Thursday at 11 a.m. EST.
The No. 2 seed is Kentucky Wesleyan (11-4-0, 10-4-0), which enters the postseason as winners in eight of its last nine. The Panthers will play their semifinal next Thursday at 1:30 p.m. EST.
Both Davis & Elkins and Cedarville are currently in the NCAA Midwest Region Rankings. D&E was voted at No. 10 and Cedarville came in at No. 8 in the first edition released last week.
The championship game will be played on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. EST.
