GREENWOOD, Ind. – Alderson Broaddus headlined a new Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll as announced by the league on Monday.
In a close vote determined by the conference head coaches, Alderson Broaddus edged out Kentucky Wesleyan by a three-point margin in the 2015-16 preseason poll.
AB received five first-place votes in the balloting while Kentucky Wesleyan garnered two first-place votes. The Battlers totaled 35 points while the Panthers had 32 points in the voting.
The back-to-back G-MAC champion Battlers were 22-7 overall and 11-3 in the conference schedule last year while securing regular-season and tournament titles.
Alderson Broaddus had the G-MAC Player of the Year in Malcolm Tatum and two-time league coach of the year Greg Zimmerman during the Battlers’ 2014-15 run.
Zimmerman is 46-12 since AB joined the G-MAC in 2013-14. He has assembled a 24-4 conference record on the sidelines during that span.
Trevecca Nazarene was tabbed third with 25 points and Cedarville gathered 21 to round out the top four teams.
Ohio Valley (17), Davis & Elkins (11) and Salem International (7), rounded out the remaining teams for the preseason poll, respectively.
Central State is not a conference member for the 2015-16 season.
The G-MAC is working with member institutions for an extensive preseason preview later this month. Interviews with the head coach and a student-athlete along with a written team capsule will be posted on G-MACSports.com prior to the regular season getting underway.
