GREENWOOD, Ind. – Alderson Broaddus junior middle/outside Jayla McCrary was named the sixth Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Athlete of the Week for the fall on Monday.
The Battlers (9-12, 4-1 G-MAC) enjoyed a fine 3-0 week -- all within league play -- as McCrary played the role of enforcer on offense and defense.
In a three-match homestand, AB prevailed over Davis & Elkins in straight sets while besting Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan in four sets each.
In 11 sets, McCrary averaged 3.45 kills and 1.27 blocks while hitting a healthy .346. She totaled 38 kills and 12 block assists.
Against Davis & Elkins, McCrary attacked with a .619 percentage and ripped 14 kills on just 21 swings. She found double-digit kill totals with a dozen apiece against TNU and KWC on back-to-back days in weekend action.
McCrary’s defensive prowess was evident in the last two matches, finishing with seven blocks and six blocks, respectively, at the net.
This fall, McCrary also ranks fourth in the G-MAC in hitting percentage (.245). As indicative of her defensive impact, McCrary is also helping put the Battlers at second in the league in opponent hitting percentage (.164).
Alderson Broaddus concludes its current four-match homestand on Wednesday against Pitt-Johnstown in Philippi.
