GREENWOOD, Ind. - The race for new bragging rights will begin with Trevecca Nazarene determined as the favorite following voting of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Preseason Coaches Poll.
Voting was conducted among the league's coaches with a total of eight G-MAC institutions ranked.
After guiding the Trojans to a 36-11 overall record in 2014, TNU head coach Ben Tyree prepares for his seventh year at the helm. Trevecca Nazarene finished last spring with a 14-5 mark in conference play.
Similar to the TNU baseball program, also picked first in the preseason poll that was released yesterday, Trojans’ softball has its sights set on a third straight G-MAC Championship crown.
The Trojans were a unanimous selection as the top preseason choice, receiving all seven possible first-place votes since teams could not vote for themselves.
In a close vote for second, Kentucky Wesleyan had the narrow edge over Cedarville.
The Panthers were armed with one first-place vote and ended the spring of 2014 by matching TNU’s 14-5 G-MAC record while going 26-18 overall. KWC head coach Miles Mallette is entering his 10th year leading the Panthers.
Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins rounded out the top five. In order, the league’s coaches voted Salem International, Ohio Valley and Ursuline, to round out the preseason poll, respectively.
The 2015 spring campaign will officially get underway on Feb. 6 with Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan both slated for two games.
A G-MAC comprehensive season preview with team capsules will be released next Wednesday, Feb. 4.
