Parker earns first career hat trick and AOTW honors

INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has named Alderson Broaddus freshman Deshawn Parker the conferences Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week following his four goal and one assist week, including a first half hat trick against Ohio Valley.

Deshawn Parker has been named the G-MAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career as the freshman opened the conference schedule with his best individual performance of his young career at AB. In a pair of G-MAC shutout wins over Salem International and Ohio Valley, Parker scored four of the teams seven goals and added an assist on the game-winner against Ohio Valley.
 
The Battlers opened the conference season at home against Salem International. With a 1-0 lead late in the first half, Parker added the insurance scoring from the left side of the box, assisted by Donovan Morgan.  
 
Parker’s biggest impact came in the Saturday road contest at Ohio Valley. The Freshman scored three times for his first collegiate hat trick, all three goals coming in the first half. Despite the success on the attack, the Battlers allowed two second half goals to tie the game at 3-3. In the 59th minute, Parker assisted on Maro Purfumo’s game-winner.  
 
Parker leads the team with five goals on the season, plus a pair of assists for a team-high 12 points. His five goals and 12 points also ranked first among the conference leaders.
