MEN'S SOCCER

All was relatively quiet on the men’s soccer front with three overtime contests becoming the decisive factor for Davis & Elkins, Alderson Broaddus and Cedarville. D&E and Cedarville deadlocked in double-overtime stalemates against Millersville and Lock Haven, respectively.

G-MAC Athlete of the Week James Pucci scored a goal and assisted on another as he continues to find his stride for the Senators, who are emerging from a gauntlet in terms of scheduling. It’s just a matter of time before the prolific scorer heats up and regains the form that resulted in 27 goals and 11 assists a year ago.

The playmaking wizard has averaged six shots per game this year and currently leads the conference in points with Connor Scott and Joel Twinem, both of Cedarville.

Salem International found the net early and often against Laurel en route to a 9-0 shutout while Trevecca blanked Bethel in the Indiana Wesleyan Classic on Saturday, 1-0, on a goal in the 71st minute by Baylor McKay.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Arrows of Ursuline continue to find their mark, most lately against Walsh on Thursday with a 2-1 triumph. UC is knotted with Kentucky Wesleyan at 3-1 for the overall lead in the conference standings.

G-MAC Athlete of the Week Paige Rowan scored twice in the first half, including the eventual game winner in the 26th minute that broke a 1-1 tie.

Cedarville bumped up above .500 to 2-1 overall with a 3-0 victory against Tiffin, an opponent that has historically given the Yellow Jackets trouble in recent history. Jacoby Ziegler netted a pair of goals and Kristie Wolff assisted on all three scores while Elise Hurley also found the back of the net.

Cedarville stung its opponent with all three goals in the first half of play, outshooting Tiffin by a margin of 28-10.

KWC’s offensive onslaught began in the first minute and continued through the duration as the Panthers had eight different players score against Midway. Annie Elder and Lauren Norton scored their team-best third goals of the fall and Kentucky Wesleyan had a 6-0 lead at the intermission.

The individual points race continues to be an exciting one with Rowan leading the way with 10 (5 G) while Ziegler is in hot pursuit with eight (4 G).

VOLLEYBALL

The G-MAC again had a heavy dose of tournament action over the weekend with 19 more matches spread out over Friday and Saturday. Ursuline (3-1) went into the weekend at the top of the overall team standings in the league and by default (no matches played), nothing changed for the current G-MAC-leading Arrows.

Trevecca (6-3) extended its win streak to five straight and Delaney Hearne has established herself as the current conference leader in hitting percentage (.358) while ranking second in kills behind teammate Katelyn Atkinson.

Davis & Elkins (3-4), Ohio Valley (4-4) and Alderson Broaddus (2-8), all tallied their first wins of the fall while Central State is waiting to compete in its first match of the season this week.

OVU vaulted to third in the overall standings and has won four straight after going unbeaten at the Cumberland Tournament. Led by G-MAC Athlete of the Week Alyx Henry (48 kills, 36 digs, 13 service aces), the Fighting Scots swept three of their four opponents faced and only lost one set.

Ohio Valley’s Henry, Amanda Weatherwax and Imani Ward, all took turns stepping up and posted strong all-around numbers across the board for the week.

Davis & Elkins hosted a tournament of its own amidst a busy weekend on campus and won three of its four matches contested. The Senators took care of business against Urbana, Virginia at Wise and Bluefield State, in order on their home court.

D&E is allowing opponents to hit just .146 against them in 26 sets, the best defensive total in the league.

Against a Fairmont State team that was 27-7 a year ago, Cedarville (4-5) started the California (Pa.) Vulcan Classic with a minor setback before handling Caldwell in straight sets the following day.

Alderson Broaddus enjoyed a weekend split at the same tournament, also beating Caldwell and collecting another victory against SUNYIT. Caitlin Cain ranks among the G-MAC leaders in digs and had 23 kills on 63 swings against Caldwell while setter Kayla Peterson racked up a G-MAC-best 58 assists versus the same opponent.

Salem International (0-5) mustered an inspiring two-set rally on Friday night, just running out of steam to close a five-set final against Glenville State. The Tigers are seeking the program’s first-ever win since SIU’s inception of the sport this fall and will get their next shot against Virginia at Wise tomorrow.

On the men's side, four programs competed at the Bethany Invitational in West Virginia while two others were tested at the Commodore Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt University.

Trevecca set a myriad of school records as it rose to the occasion against NCAA Division I competition at Percy Warner Park.

Sophomore Logan Rodgers finished 11th overall to earn G-MAC Runner of the Week accolades as he set a new 8K school record in the process. His time of 25:05 beat other runners from Memphis, Ole Miss, Louisville and Mississippi State, among others.

The Trojans shattered their previous team record and finished third of 11 as part of the non-Division I field only behind Lee and Harding. Kentucky Wesleyan College was also

Davis & Elkins was the top team at the Bethany Invitational, ultimately finishing sixth, while freshman Scott Neslund of Alderson Broaddus stole the show with a fifth-place finish individually.

Ohio Valley’s Andrew Shaffer, the G-MAC Athlete of the Week to begin the fall, was nearly keeping pace with Neslund as he crossed the line in eighth overall. Another impressive freshman, D&E’s Shane Ickes, also finished in the top 15 at 14th overall.

For the women, Jenny Brewer of Alderson Broaddus broke into the G-MAC top individual times again for a 6K race at 23:29, finishing runner-up at the Bethany Invitational. She was named the conference’s athlete of the week.

Brewer owns two of the league’s top-10 times for a 6K race since 2012.

Davis & Elkins senior Ellen Cantaral added another top-five finish to her resume this fall, finishing fourth while ABU’s Hannah Surface was 14th.
