ALLENDALE, Mich. - Seniors Matt Brooker and Joe Niemiec wrapped up outstanding distance running careers with their performances at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Niemiec, a native of Zeeland, Mich., was the first on the track at Grand Valley State University in the 3,000 meter steeplechase prelims. He finished 16th of 20 competitors in 9:31.21.

Brooker, a product of Spring Mills, Pa., followed in the 10,000 meter final. He placed 14th of 20 in 30:29.55.

Niemiec closed out his career with two of the Top 10 steeplechase marks in school history. That includes the #2 effort at CU of 9:07.02 set on May 9 at North Central (Ill.).

Brooker was one of the most decorated cross country and track runners in school history. He leaves with four of the Top 10 times in the 10K including the school record of 29:52.58 set at the 2013 University of Cincinnati Open.
