INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has named Joe Niemiec of Cedarville University and Keyana Roberts of Ursuline College the Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.


Men’s Track & Field: Athlete of the Week

Joe Niemiec has been named G-MAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Miami (OH) Invitational this past weekend, in which he helped guide the Yellow Jackets to a second place finish as a team.  
 
Niemiec took part in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and finished the event in second place overall, less than a second behind the winner Thomas Ohlman, who was from NCAA DI Xavier (OH). Niemiec finished ahead of many DI runners that made up the 11 person field. More importantly was that his time of 9:14.71 met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark for the DII Championships last this spring.

Women’s Track and Field: Athlete of the Week

Keyana Roberts has been named the Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week after her performance this past weekend at the at the Bob Kahn Invitational on the campus of Oberlin College. 
 
Roberts established school records and conference leading marks in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. She won both events, finishing first in a field of 18 in the 100m dash with a time of 12.28 seconds, and finished first in a field of 20 in the 200m dash with a time of 25.39 seconds.
 
She currently leads the G-MAC performance list in the 100m by 0.69 seconds and the 200m by 1.02 seconds. Both are considered large margins in regards to sprint events that usually come down to less than a tenth of a second.
