CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Ursuline College Arrows not only caputred the inaugural Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday, but they secured the schools first-ever G-MAC title in an impressive showing, posting 260.5 points.
The Arrows won nine of 20 total individual events at the conference meet, with each event champion earning First Team All-Conference honors. A full list of All-Conference first and second teams, along with all honorable mentions will be posted on Sunday.
Ursuline's most impressive performances came in the sprints as in four events they placed four of the top five runners, including earning the top two spots in all four races and the top three spots in three of the four.
Earning individual honors, Ursuline head coach Ralph White was named Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year as he led his program to their first G-MAC title.
Nicole Burlison of Ursuline was named Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 400m, 800m and 1500m races and earning points in the long jump, high jump, and javelin, totaling 48.5 points for her team.
Beatriz Indurain of Ursuline was named Field Athlete of the Year after winning the long jump and triple jump, and earning points in the high jump. She even managed to perform well in the track events, finishing second in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles, and earned a point in the 200m dash. She totaled 37 points for UC.
Biz McLendon of Trevecca Nazarene University was named Freshman of the Year after winning the 10,000m run. She was the only freshman to win an event at the Outdoor Championships.
