INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has named Courtnie Spain (P) of Cedarville and Ashley Crooke (1B) of Kentucky Wesleyan the Softball Pitcher and Offensive Athlete of the Week.

Ashley Crooke has been named the Softball Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after an impressive week at the plate for the Panthers, who went 4-0 last week in G-MAC play to improve to 10-4 in conference and 19-15 overall.
 
Crooke hit .563 in four games last week, two against Ohio Valley and two against Salem International. She led the G-MAC in hits with 13, tied with Trevecca’s Kelsey Kemp. However, Crooke held the advantage collecting 2.25 hits per game, while Kemp managed 2.17 per game.
 
Crooke scored six runs and drove in five, but the highlight of her week came in the team’s 7-1 win over Salem International. Crooke hit for the cycle going 4-4 with three runs and three RBI. She went home run, triple, single, and double in her four trips to the plate.
 
She collected a hit in all four games played last week and had either a run scored or a run batted in in every game. On the season, Crooke is hitting .315, which is third on her team. She is one of only seven players with 20 or more runs scored and 20 or more RBI.

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Courtnie Spain has been named G-MAC Softball Pitcher Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after helping earn her team a pair of wins and also collecting two saves in relief appearances.
 
On the week, Spain pitched two complete games, winning both and totaled 18.2 innings as she made five total appearances on the week. She also led the conference with 29 strikeouts. In her 18.2 innings, she allowed just seven total hits and one run, posting a 0.38 earned run average.
 
She now ranks second, behind her teammate Kelsey Chapman in ERA after lowering her ERA to 1.53. She improved to 9-4 and picked up her first two saves of the season. She is also second in strikeouts with 96, but she is the only pitcher in the G-MAC with more strikeouts than innings pitched (82.1 IP).
 
In her two wins, Spain allowed a run on two hits to West Liberty in the team’s 9-1 win, striking out six in six innings. In her second win, she allowed no runs on two hits to Alderson Broaddus in the team’s 3-0 win. She struck out 10.
 
In her three relief appearances, she pitched a scoreless two-thirds an inning against Ohio Valley. In her other two, both times recording a save, Spain pitched three innings against Ohio Valley allowing just one hit and recorded seven strikeouts of the nine outs she recorded. In her other save, Spain pitched two innings, allowing a hit and striking out five of the six outs she recorded.
