Leigh Murphy has been named the Softball Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time this season. The junior outfielder played the vital role in both of the teams conference wins, helping split both of the G-MAC doubleheaders this weekend.
The Fighting Scots traveled first to Elkins, WV to play Davis & Elkins. After a loss in game one, OVU would bounce back in game two defeating the Senators in a battle of the pitchers. It was Murphy’s solo home run that proved to be the only run of the game for either team, giving OVU the 1-0 win.
The next afternoon, OVU traveled to Philippi, WV to face Alderson Broaddus. The Scots once again split wins in the conference doubleheader, losing game one and coming back in game two. Murphy once again scored the go-ahead run and proved to be the game-winning run for OVU in the sixth inning of the seven inning contest.
Murphy finished the weekend 6-11, with three walks, two doubles, and a home run. She scored five times and drove in two. She is hitting .417 on the season (15-36).
