PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Tuesday's 69-60 win over Salem International was a historic one not just because of the conference tournament implications, but also because it marked the 300th career victory in the blue and gold for Head Coach Greg Zimmerman.

“I’d like to offer congratulations on a tremendous milestone,” said Athletic Director Dennis Creehan. “After being here three years and watching him work, I can see why he has been so successful. I look forward to seeing him win 300 more games.”

Zimmerman, AB's winningest coach behind the legendary Rex Pyles, joined the Battler family in 2001 and has left his mark on one of West Virginia's most successful college basketball programs. He led the Battlers to West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament titles in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, and guided the blue and gold to their first-ever Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Regular Season Championship Tuesday. He holds a .754 winning percentage and a 300-98 overall record.

The Battlers made NCAA Division II Tournament appearances nine consecutive seasons under Zimmerman and were five-time WVIAC Regular Season Champions.

Former Athletic Director JD Long hired Zimmerman prior to the 2001-02 season after long-time Head Coach Brett Vincent departed and said that he is proud of the choice.

"I knew what I was getting when I hired Greg," said Long. "He demands perfection and you can see that in his teams. He teaches fundamental basketball and discipline. AB is so glad to have him here."

Zimmerman was a two-time WVIAC Coach of the Year (2006 and 2007) and has developed three All-Americans, one WVIAC Player of the Year, three WVIAC Neal Baisi Award winners, 16 First Team All-WVIAC selections and two WVIAC Freshman of the Year winners.
Dr. James Daddysman, the “Voice of the Battlers” for over 20 years, believes that Zimmerman has left his mark on the program and the young men he has molded over the years.

“Greg is the quintessential coach,” said Daddysman. “He knows the game inside and out and teaches it thoroughly to his players.  His offensive and defensive systems win games.  He is a dedicated Christian who exhibits the highest personal standards to his players and to all with whom he comes in contact.”

ABU visits Davis & Elkins College Saturday afternoon for its final regular season contest of the season. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET. The G-MAC Tournament begins Thursday, March 6, at Rex Pyles Arena.
