Raegan Ryan has been named the season’s G-MAC Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week after an impressive opening weekend of action for her and her team. Ryan led the team in scoring in both victories, which came against Ashland and Ohio Dominican as part of the G-MAC/GLIAC Challenge.
Ryan scored 23 points in each of the Lady Jackets wins on the road at Ohio Dominican. In the season opener against Ashland, who received votes in the national preseason poll, Ryan led all scorers with 23 points, while adding five rebounds, two assists and two steals in 32 minutes. Cedarville led from the start of the game, until Ashland took the lead late in the second half. As the lead exchanged hands multiple times, CU was leading by one when Ryan’s three-pointer gave began a 9-2 run that closed out the win, 74-65.
In the team’s 85-82 win over ODU, Ryan again scored 23 points to lead her team, coming on 10-14 shooting from the floor and making all three of her long range attempts. She added two rebounds, three assists and two more steals in 37 minutes played. ODU held the lead all but 12 seconds of the first half and led by as many as eight early in the second half. However, Ryan’s three-pointer with 8:10 left gave the team its first lead of the half. Another three-pointer with 2:27 left gave the team a five point lead, which it held on to, winning by three.
