GREENWOOD, Ind. - Following two more conference wins to cap off the program’s historic regular-season run, Ohio Valley University senior setter Jessica Simpson was recognized as the G-MAC Volleyball Athlete of the Week.
Simpson continues to set the table for a productive Fighting Scots’ offense as Ohio Valley secured the G-MAC Championship’s No. 2 seed and tied the program’s single-season win record (23 wins in 1995).
In the past week on the road, the Fighting Scots brought down postseason bound Alderson Broaddus and took care of business against Davis & Elkins. As a result, OVU locked in a deserving first-round bye in the conference tournament held later this week in Cedarville, Ohio.
Setters usually fly under the radar, but not only has Simpson established herself as the league leader in assists within the G-MAC, she also ranks ninth in the country among her positional counterparts.
Her prowess running head coach Paul Jacoby’s offense has resulted in a trio of Fighting Scots ranking in the top 10 in the G-MAC in both kills and points. She is averaging 10.2 assists per set on the year along with more than two digs.
In seven sets last week, Simpson totaled 30 assists against Alderson Broaddus and had 33 against Davis & Elkins. She also contributed 13 digs and a pair of block assists to go with three kills.
