Salem and AB advance to the G-MAC Men's Soccer Semifinals

INDIANAPOLIS - In the quarterfinal round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament Alderson Broaddus advanced with its 1-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan, while Salem International needed double overtime to pull off the come-from-behind upset win at Trevecca, 3-2.

In Nashville, the Tigers scored midway through the second overtime period to capture the quarterfinal victory over Trevecca, 3-2. Early in the season, Salem defeated Trevecca in Nashville 5-3 in a game that was originally schedule to take place in West Virginia.

TNU jumped out to the early lead as Jackson Boonstra scored his first career goal in the 23rd minute, and they held that advantage into halftime. The Trojans extended the lead to 2-0 in the 51st minute on a goal by Jeremiah Wright, assisted by Juan Egas.
 
Salem began its comeback with its first goal in the 57th minute by Alejandro De La Macorra and tied the game less than ten minutes later on the goal by Mohammed Ali Khalaf. The teams then battled through the final 27 minutes and then ten minutes of overtime.
 
In the second overtime, Javier Ruiz Paz recorded his third assist of the game, assisting on the game-winner by Michael Brunton. SIU advances to the semifinals and will face the Northeast Division’s top seed Davis & Elkins on Thursday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m. at tournament host Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio.

KENTUCKY WESLEYAN at ALDERSON BROADDUS - Battlers advanced 1-0

In Philippi, West Virginia, the Battlers needed just one goal from Peter McMenemy to secure their quarterfinal round victory over Kentucky Wesleyan. During the regular-season, the Panthers had defeated AB 1-0 in Owensboro, but behind a strong attack, Alderson Broaddus took revenge.
 
The Battlers outshot KWC 20-8, including shots on goals (11-5). Panther goalkeeper Grant Allen made 10 saves, while Richard Lao had five.
 
Alderson Broaddus will advance to face the top overall seed Cedarville on Thursday, November 6 at 5:00 p.m. in Cedarville, Ohio. In the regular season, Cedarville went 7-0-1 in conference play, which included a 1-0 win over Alderson Broaddus on the road.
