Jacoby Ziegler has been named the Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for the first time this season. Ziegler, the 2012 G-MAC Offensive Player of the Year, earns her first-ever Athlete of the Week award after leading the Lady Jackets to a perfect 2-0 start to the conference schedule.
On the week she scored twice and assisted on two goals, as the Lady Jackets defeated the defending G-MAC champion TNU Trojans on the road, followed by a conference victory at Kentucky Wesleyan. Against the Trojans, Ziegler assisted on the first goal of the game by Hannah Velloney and then scored back-to-back goals to push the lead to 3-0 in the first half, with CU eventually winning by a 4-0 score. Two days later at Kentucky Wesleyan, Ziegler once again assisted on the first goal of the game, this time coming from Grace Miorelli.
Ziegler then scored a goal prior to half, sending the team into the break with a 2-0 lead. KWC cut into that lead with a goal in the 54th minute. Ziegler then scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the 68th minute, as the Panthers would score with just under seven minutes left to tally the final score of 3-2.
With four goals, two assists, and ten points on the week, Ziegler has claimed the top spot in the conference leaders in points (17) and goals scored (7). Last year’s leader in points and goals has extended her conference record lead in scoring to 20 career goals and 38 career points.
