CU and D&E open G-MAC play with shutout wins

The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opened the Men's Soccer conference schedule on Thursday with a pair of contests. Cedarville and Davis and Elkins each posted dominate shutout victories to take an early lead in the G-MAC standings.

RECAP: (Courtesy of @CUJackets) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The defense was tight and four different players scored goals to highlight the Yellow Jackets' 4-0 result at Trevecca Nazarene in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference men's soccer opener for both schools.

Cedarville, who has surrendered only one goal this season, improved to 3-0-2 overall. Ethan Dewhurst was called upon to make just one save while posting his fourth shutout. Offensively, Connor Scott scored in the 42nd minute on an assist from Jon Earl as the Jackets held a 1-0 at the intermission.

Zack Gatlin gave CU some breathing room in the 53rd minute before two late scores accounted for the four-goal differential. Joel Twinem netted his first collegiate tally from Connor Gilmour in the 79th minute and Mitch Goodling was assisted by Stephen Morris in the 85th.

The Yellow Jackets outshot TNU 16-7 overall and 7-1 on goal. They attempted seven more corners (12-5) and committed four fewer fouls (12-8).

RECAP: (Courtesy of @SenatorNation) ELKINS, W.Va. – James Pucci found the back of the net four times to lead Davis & Elkins to a 7-0 victory in their G-MAC season-opener against Ohio Valley on Thursday.
 
Pucci scored in the 15th minute and registered his second mark of the game just six minutes later to put D&E on top 2-0. Benjamin Pastur posted the final goal of the first half to make the score 3-0.
 
Pucci netted the first two goals of the second half to extend the lead to 5-0, before an own goal by the Scots pushed the lead to 6-0. Grant Braun scored the game's final goal to set the 7-0 margin and Cameron Rivera finished with one save to earn the shutout.
 
The Senators blistered 27 shots, 19 of which were on goal, while limiting OVU to just five shots.
