INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced that Ashley Skinner and Haley Kolmerten of Urbana University have been named G-MAC Softball Pitching and Offensive Athletes of the Week respectively.
OFFENSIVE AOTW
Ashley Skinner
Urbana University
Junior - Third Base/Catcher
Ashley Skinner helped guide the Urbana softball program to a perfect 7-0 start over spring break, while hitting .647 (11-17) over the first week of action for the Blue Knights. She recorded a hit and a run scored in each game played over break, and had an RBI in six of the seven games.
Skinner recorded four doubles, a triple and three home runs to accumulate a 1.529 slugging percentage. She also reached base twice via the walk and twice after being hit by a pitch for a .714 on-base percentage. Overall she scored 10 runs, drove in 11 and was safe on her only stolen base attempt of the season.
Over spring break, Urbana allowed only two runs - meaning Skinner outscored the opponents by herself with three homeruns in seven games. In the teams two most competitive games, a 4-2 win over Randolph and a 2-0 win over Eastern, Skinner was a combined 4-6 at the plate with two home runs. Against Eastern, she hit a solo home run to give her team an insurance second run, while she was a perfect 3-3 against Randolph with a home run and a double. She drove in three of the four runs the team scored in the 4-2 win.
On the season, Skinner’s .647 batting average is almost 121 points better than her teammate, who ranks second in the conference. Her three home runs equal the season team totals for Cedarville (17 games) and Trevecca Nazarene (6 games).
She leads the conference in runs batted in, and is the only player to score 10 or more runs. She is also the only player to record ten or more runs, RBI, and hits so far this season.

PITCHING AOTW
Haley Kolmerten
Urbana University
Junior - Right-Handed Pitcher
Haley Kolmerten helped guide the Urbana softball program to a perfect 7-0 start to its 2013 schedule, as the team allowed just two total runs over its seven-game spring break trip. Kolmerten went 4-0 on the week, recording two complete-game shutouts, one combined shutout, and three total complete games.
In the team’s two most difficult games, Kolmerten earned the win in each, a 4-2 win over Randolph and a 2-0 shutout of Eastern. She totaled 21 innings, allowing two runs - one earned - for a 0.33 earned run average. She had an amazing 40 strikeouts to average almost 2 strikeouts each inning pitched.
Her best outing came against Robert Morris University, as she threw a six-inning complete game, allowing only one hit and recorded a strike out 14 on 18 of the outs she recorded.
Her 0.33 earned run average is only topped by her teammate, Lauren Anderson, who has a 0.00 in 14 innings pitched and a 3-0 record - which Kolmerten’s four wins rank tied for first in the conference, and her 40 strikeouts are second, seven behind Cedarville’s Courtnie Spain - who has thrown 21 more innings on the season than Kolmerten.
