URBANA, Ohio (@UUsports) – The Trevecca Nazarene University women’s basketball team picked up their first conference loss on Saturday afternoon on the road at Urbana University. In the final game of their first pass through the G-MAC slate, the previously unbeaten Trojans fell 71-59 to the Blue Knights.

Trevecca Nazarene entered Saturday’s contest with an unblemished 4-0 record in conference play. The Trojans averaged 90 points per game in their first 4 conference wins, but the Blue Knights clamped down defensively and held them to just 59 points on 30% shooting. The Blue Knights improve to 3-1 in the G-MAC after shooting 41% from the field, including 10 of 23 from downtown.

The conference’s leading scorer, UU sophomore guard Ciara Geiger, led all scorers with 17 points, including 11 in the second half. Her lay-up with 8:22 to play turned a 6-point Blue Knight lead into an 8-point advantage that would not shrink the rest of the way. Geiger also 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, and she knocked down 4 of 5 from deep.

A total of four Blue Knights reached double figures in the win. Sophomore Kate Francisco recorded her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks. DeVonyea Johnson had 14 points and a game-high 7 assists to go with 3 steals, and Katy Barkley added 10 off the bench. Junior guard Jackie Cousineau also chipped in 9 points off the bench.

Trevecca Nazarene falls to 14-7 overall and 4-1 in the G-MAC with the loss. Urbana (10-13, 3-1 G-MAC) plays three straight conference opponents after Saturday, starting with a road game at Ursuline College next Saturday. The Blue Knights broke the Arrows 77-56 in their last meeting on January 8th. [Box Score]
