GENEVA, Ohio – Ursuline College head cross country/assistant track and field coach Ralph White introduced assistant cross country/track and field coach Maddy Outman and Ursuline College freshman Nicole Burlinson to Michael Johnson, arguably the greatest sprinter in United States track and field history.
White was a top official at the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships that were held this past weekend at the SPIRE Institute. Johnson joined the SPIRE Institute leadership board in 2011 and oversees Michael Johnson Performance at the state-of-the-art facility.
Johnson ran track at Baylor University from 1987-90 and knew White from his days as a men’s track and field coach at Southern Methodist University when both schools were members of the Southwest Conference.
During his 11-year career, Johnson established a record with 13 Olympic and World Championship medals, all of them gold. He won four Olympic gold medals and was a nine-time world champion and world record holder.
He represented the United States in the Olympics on three occasions: Barcelona in 1992, Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000.
