Zimmy Nwogbo has been named the G-MAC Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the third straight week and league leading fifth time this year as an individual, giving Cedarville its conference leading seventh AOTW this season.
In two games this past week, Nwogbo averaged 22 points per game and 10.5 rebounds, as the Yellow Jackets secured the G-MAC Regular-Season Title in their final conference game of the year, a 74-69 win over Central State.
Against the Marauders, Nwogbo had a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds. He was 9-15 shooting, including 2-of-3 from long range. He also scored five of his points from the free throw line on seven attempts. The win gives Cedarville the top seed and the right to host the G-MAC Championship Tournament on March 8-9, 2013.
In non-conference action against Notre Dame College, Nwogbo again led the team with a game-high 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. His double-double was his sixth of the season, which is most in the G-MAC this season. He also leads the conference in double-digit rebounding games with six, including the league’s only 20-rebound game back in November.
Nwogbo, who leads the Yellow Jackets in scoring, continues to raise his scoring average, but remains third in the conference with 18.4 points per game. In conference play, he scores 18.8 points per game, second to DeMarkus Isom-Jones of Central State (19.0).
He continues to lead the conference in shooting (64.8% from the floor - 175-270) and in rebounding with 8.2 boards per game this season. As the conference’s leading rebounder, he ranks first in defensive rebounds and second in offensive rebounds (0.1 rebound behind Casey Baker).
Nwogbo’s name also shows up in a variety of other categories, ranking in the top-ten in Free Throw Percentage (9th - 68.2%), Steals (5th - 1.4/g), and Blocked Shots (3rd - 1.0/g).
