CEDARVILLE, Ohio - On Thursday, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference 2013 Women’s Soccer Championships continued with the semifinal round, hosted by top overall seed Cedarville University. Following a victory by Davis & Elkins in game one of the semifinal double-header, the G-MAC announced and presented its 2013 All-Conference First and Second Team selections, as well as its Conference Individual Awards.
Highlighting the announcement was the presentation of the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, which was swept by the top seed and host Lady Jackets. Jacoby Ziegler, the 2012 G-MAC Offensive Player of the Year and the 2012 G-MAC Freshman of the Year, was once again voted the G-MAC Offensive Player of the Year. The sophomore forward has spent a majority of the season leading the NCAA DII in scoring. She currently ranks fourth in total points and sixth in total goals.
Teammate and classmate Carly Gregory was voted the 2013 G-MAC Defensive Player of the Year, as she guided a defense that posted a conference low 0.839 goals against average and ranks in the top 50 in the nation in both goals against average and shutout percentage.
Ursuline College freshman Cassie Cripe was named the G-MAC Women’s Soccer Freshman of the Year. Cripe ranks fifth in the conference in scoring with eight goals and eight assists for 24 points - or 1.26 points per game. Here eight assists are tied for fourth best in the G-MAC, while all of these statistics lead the conference among freshmen.
Rounding out the individual awards, Cedarville Head Coach John McGillivray was voted G-MAC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year. McGillivray guided the team to a 14-5 record overall and just missed a perfect 2013 conference season, going 9-1. The team’s only defeat came at the hands of Trevecca Nazarene. The 14 wins double that of their 2012 total and broke a streak of four-straight seasons with exactly seven wins.
Ziegler and Gregory were named to the 11-member All-Conference First Team, while freshman Cripe was selected to the All-Conference Second Team. On the team (
