KWC Volleyball earns top seed and regular season title

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team won the 2013 regular-season G-MAC title on Saturday afternoon after beating the defending champion Cedarville Lady Jackets on the road in five sets. The Panthers, who are competing in the G-MAC for the first time this season, finished the regular season with a 24-6 overall record, while going 12-2 in the conference.

Cedarville and KWC finished in a tie for first place, but the Panthers handed Cedarville each of its two losses to claim the head-to-head tiebreaker. With the regular-season crown goes the #1 overall seed in the Volleyball Championships, which will be hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan, starting on Thursday.

In the match on Saturday, the Lady Jackets jumped out to an early lead, winning the first set, 25-21.
KWC sophomore Dallas Zimmerman helped the Panthers tie the match at one set each, as they flipped the score of the first set, winning 25-21.

Cedarville built a 17-13 lead in the third and went on to win 25-19, coming within a set of claiming the top seed and the regular-season championship. However, the Panthers won the fourth set 25-21 and forcing a deciding game five.

In the fifth and final set, Cedarville went ahead 9-5 in a game to 15, but KWC rallied to tie the score at nine all. The Panthers continued to roll, and won the set 15-10, finishing on a 10-1 rally.
