VOLLEYBALL CROSSOVER EVENT - DAY TWO UPDATES

Mason, Ohio - Mason, Ohio - The 2013 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Crossover event continued on Saturday morning, as Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene earned four set wins over Ursuline and Ohio Valley respectively.

Kentucky Wesleyan, who went 1-1 on day one, improved to 2-1 with a hard-fought win over Ursuline, 20-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-22. KWC was led by Bridget Johnson’s 21 kills, Jordan Rickerts 54 assists, and Hannah Hudnall’s 25 digs - all match-highs. Summer Alford had 13 kills and Ashley Pickert had 11 to join Johnson in double-figures. Ursuline was led by Alex Leister’s double-double (13 kills and 15 digs), while Mikayla Windau chipped in 10 kills.
 
Trevecca, after splitting its two matches on day one, improved to 2-1 in conference play with a 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 25-15 win over Ohio Valley, who dropped to 1-2 after splitting its first two matches yesterday.
 
The Trojans were led by Katelyn Atkinson, who had a match-high 16 kills to go with 18 digs. Kristen Johnson and Persephonie Devereaux joined Atkinson in double figures with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Shelby Source had a team-high 22 digs, while OVU was led by Megan Morrison’s 22 digs. On the attack, the Senators had 40 assists from Jessica Simpson, and a team-high 13 kills from Felicia Zartman.

In the second set of matches on Saturday, Cedarville and Davis & Elkins cruised to three set victories over Alderson Broaddus and Central State. Cedarville remained undefeated on the weekend and took control of the standings, handing Alderson Broaddus its first conference loss of the season.
 
Davis and Elkins had six players record three or more kills, led by Alexis Mourier’s match-high seven kills. They had 10 digs from Kelsey Richards, and 13 assists from Alicia Stokes. Central State was led by Brein Babbs five kills and Ashlee Spencer’s eight digs.
 
On the other court, Cedarville’s attack was led by Amanda Bell, who had a match-high 14 kills. Hannah Wagner joined her in double-figures with 10. The Battlers were led by Ashley MacDonald’s 11 kills. Defensively the Lady  Jackets had 19 digs from Angela Becker, while AB had 16 digs from Jillian Brown. Guiding the offenses, Kayla Peterson had 21 assists for Alderson Broaddus, while Cedarville received 23 assists from Maddie Anderson and 13 from Kristin Cardwell.

In their final matches of the weekend, Ursuline and Kentucky Wesleyan secured victories to each finish the weekend 2-2. Trevecca Nazarene, despite the loss, finishes the weekend at 2-2 as well, while Ohio Valley fell to 1-3 over the four matches.
Ursuline cruised to a 25-19, 25-12, 25-14 win led by Alex Leister’s match-high nine kills, Molly Hilfinger’s 27 assists, and Makayla Windau’s 16 digs. Windau also chipped in eight kills. The Arrows also had a balanced attack with Emily Adkinson and Hilfinger each having six kills, and Maureen Kelly and Sammi Marcum each totaling five.
 
For the Trojans, Kristen Johnson finished with seven kills and eight digs. Shelby Sorce had a team-high 13 digs and Katelyn Atkinson had nine digs to go with four kills.
 
 On court two, Kentucky Wesleyan  won by a similar margin 25-17, 25-16, 25-22 led by Summer Alford and Erica Gallois, who had 13 kills and 12 kills respectively. Jordan Rickert recorded 36 assists, while Hannah Hudnall had 26 digs and Alford chipped in 13.
 
For Ohio Valley, Felicia Zartman led the way with 10 kills, while Jessica Simpson had a team-high 26 assists and nine digs as well, tied with Megan Morrison for the team lead.

In the final matches of the weekend, Alderson Broaddus improved to 3-1 and Cedarville remained perfect at 4-0, while Central State dropped to 0-4 and Davis & Elkins to 1-3. Alderson Broaddus rebounded from its morning loss to Cedarville with a 25-4, 25-8, 25-15 performance.
 
As for Cedarville, they had to survive and come from behind in the first game to keep its weekend perfect, winning all four matches 3-0. They have now won five-straight matches, all 3-0. They took set number one 29-27, before dominating the second set 25-12, and finished off the weekend 25-13.
