SALEM, W.Va. - (courtesy of @CUYellowJackets) Zimmy Nwogbo, who was named G-MAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week this past Monday, continued to perform at a high level as he racked up 26 points and 11 rebounds in a 82-77 non-conference win at Salem International.
The Yellow Jackets, 10-8 overall, hit 18-of-21 free throws in the first half for a 45-36 lead at the break. A basket to open the second period made it an 11-point bulge, but the Tigers roared back to within two.
Cedarville responded with a 12-2 spurt to regain command. The Jackets eventually built the lead to 72-55 with 9:35 left and SIU could only get as close as the final score.
"This is a tough place to play," quipped CU Head Coach Pat Estepp. "They're quick, athletic, and very physical. We took care of the basketball, kept our composure, and it resulted in a good win for us."
Nwogbo was unstoppable again as he went 8-for-13 from the field and 10-for-12 at the stripe. He's averaging 27 points and 10 rebounds over his last four games.
Jason Cuffee returned to the starting line-up and totaled 12 points with five assists. Zach Brown added 12 points and four assists.
Salem International falls to 9-11. The Tigers visit CU on Feb. 2.
