Weekly Soccer Award Winners

INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has released its Men's and Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week: Yves Nzwanga and Abby Pearson from Urbana University.


Yves Nzwanga
Urbana University - Junior - Midfielder

Yves Nzwanga guided Urbana to a 2-0 week, with wins over future G-MAC opponent Ohio Valley, 3-1, and over current G-MAC opponent Trevecca Nazarene, 1-0. In the two games, Nzwanga provided the game-winners in each contest.

Over his last four games, in which the Blue Knights have gone 3-0-1, Nzwanga has provided five goals, including the game winner in all three of the teams wins.

Nzwanga currently ranks fifth in the conference in points (10), is tied for fourth in the conference in goals (5), and ranks tied for first in the conference in game-winners (3). The Blue Knights are leading the G-MAC with a 2-0 record in conference.

Abby Pearson
Urbana University - Senior - Midfielder

Abby Pearson guided the Urbana women's soccer team to a 2-1-0 week, after a slow start to the season (0-4-0). In three games, she posted a goal and three assists, including assisting on each of the two game-winners this week.

Urbana topped future conference opponent Ohio Valley, 2-0 as Pearson assisted on the games first goal, and later added insurance with a PF goal to close out the scoring. Against Goshen, with the score tied at 2-2, Pearson assisted on Brittany Mazzu's game-winner midway through the second half as Urbana would hold on to win, 3-2.

In the final game of the week, the Blue Knights would fall to Indiana Tech, 3-1. However, Pearson did manage another assist on the only goal Urbana managed in the loss.
