CEDARVILLE ERUPTS FOR A 4-1 WIN

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Christian Alexander scored twice and the Yellow Jackets took control following a lightning delay to defeat Indianapolis, 4-1, in the 2012 men's soccer home opener.

Alexander finished off his first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute to make it 1-0. He tracked down a long ball in the box and outmaneuvered the Greyhound defense for the score.

UIndy got the equalizer in the 52nd on a nifty header on what resulted in its only shot on goal in the contest. Despite the remnants of Hurricane Isaac looming the entire evening, matters remained calm until the 63rd minute.

That's when it all took a strange turn.

A 50/50 ball resulted in a Greyhound going to the turf which halted play. During the stoppage, UIndy was given two cautions and an ejection. Then, the officials spotted lightning in the distance and delayed the contest for 30 minutes.

Played resumed with Cedarville having a man advantage and it took less than a minute for Ryan Thurman to be taken down in the box. Steve Ellis converted the penalty kick and the hosts never looked back.

Alexander ripped a left-footed shot from the top of the box in the 70th minute. Connor Scott completed the scoring from close range in the 88th when he cleaned up Jeremy Hoppe's header off the crossbar.

Cedarville, 2-0, outshot UIndy 13-5 overall and 8-1 in shots on goal. The Jackets had an 8-5 edge in corners with six of them coming in the first seven minutes of the game. The Greyhounds fall to 0-2.

TREVECCA MOVES TO 2-0 WITH A 4-2 WIN OVER OHIO VALLEY

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca men's soccer team won their second match at the Muskingum Invitational, with a 4-2 win over Ohio Valley University on Saturday. Jonathan Baskin added his fifth goal of the weekend in the victory.

Trevecca's Matthew Esquivel started the scoring at 27:23 with an assist from Connor Inman. Ryan Walls put the Trojans up 2-0 with a goal at 34:22 coming off a pass from Matt Raines.

In the second period, OVU evened the score at 2-2 with a pair of goals early in the half. At 56:01 Samuel Asimeng scored on a Omokheafe Esivue assist. Esivue then assisted less than 10 minutes later when Jackie Flynn scored at 63:42. Baskin picked up his fifth goal in two days at 71:00 on another Inman assist. The goal would prove to the game winner, while Javier Delgado scored an unassisted goal at 79:52 to close out the 4-2 win.

Trevecca outscored its first two opponents 12-2 over the weekend. Baskin had 10 points and Connor Inman had four total assists. Baskin's five goals are one more than he has scored in his first two years (30 games) at Trevecca. Inman's four assists are double what he produced last year as a freshman.
