CEDARVILLE VOLLEYBALL REMAINS PERFECT AT 9-0 AFTER THE WEEKEND
CHARLESTON, West Virginia - (courtesy of CUYellowJackets) Five sets weren't necessary this time. The Lady Jackets kept their record unblemished with wins over Mars Hill and Chowan on the first day of play at the Charleston Invitational.
Cedarville recovered to defeat Mars Hill 16-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-20. The Jackets swept Chowan 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 to push their season mark to 7-0.
Cedarville closed out the Charleston Invitational with victories over Virginia Union and the host Golden Eagles to remain unbeaten through nine matches to start the season.
The Lady Jackets swept aside Virginia Union 25-14, 25-14, 25-12. They finished up by disposing of Charleston 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17.
TREVECCA IMPROVES TO 5-0 WITH A THREE-GAME WIN ON FRIDAY
NASHVILLE, Tennessee - (Courtesy of @TNUSports) Trevecca remained undefeated at 5-0 with a three-game (25-9, 25-19, 25-12) victory over Brescia University at the Trojan Fieldhouse on Friday. Shelby Sorce led the way with nine kills, no attack errors and a .562 attack percentage. Sorce also added two service aces and six digs.
Persephonie Devereaux added eight kills while Allison Boe had six. Caroline Gay led the team with 20 assists, six digs, and two service aces. Loren Bennett led the team with 18 digs.
As a team the Trojans produced an impressive .341 attack percentage with 41 kills and 11 errors in 88 total attack opportunities. The best set was the third when the Trojans had 18 kills and one error in 30 attempts.
URSULINE EARNS FIRST WIN, DESPITE TOUGH WEEKEND AT KWC CLASSIC
OWENSBORO, Kentucky – (courtesy of @UrsulineArrows) On day two of the Kentucky Wesleyan Classic, after the Arrows dropped their first two matches of the Classic on Friday, Ursuline managed its first win of the season - topping Bluefield College in four games.
On Friday, Ursuline fell to the host Panthers in four sets before coming up short against Glenville State College in a match that went the distance.
Set scores against Kentucky Wesleyan were 25-16, 25-11, 22-25 and 25-23. Ursuline lost the first set against Glenville State, 25-22, but rallied to win sets two and three by scores of 25-22 and 25-23. The Pioneers took the final two sets, 25-16 and 15-10.
The weekend concluded with a four game loss to Oakland City.
URBANA DROPS ALL THREE WEEKEND MATCHES IN THREE GAMES
FINDLAY, Ohio - (courtesy of @UUSports) The Urbana University volleyball team fell in straight sets two times on Saturday afternoon at the Findlay Fall Classic. First, nationally ranked Hillsdale College swept the Blue Knights 25-11, 25-14, 25-13 before the University of California (Pa.) kept Urbana winless on the road with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 victory.
Fridays have been unkind to the Urbana University volleyball team in 2012. For the second straight Friday, the Blue Knights dropped a pair of matches on the road in a weekend invitational at the University of Findlay. First, Wayne State University stopped Urbana in 3 sets, 25-11, 25-18, 25-15, then the hosts from Findlay swept UU 25-14, 25-22, 25-19.
The four losses drop Urbana's record to 1-8 on the season. All 8 losses have come away from Urbana, while the lone win came on the Blue Knights' home floor on Tuesday night. Hillsdale began the season ranked 10th in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. The Chargers were still receiving votes this week. Cal improved to 6-2 after the win over Urbana.
