URSULINE DEALT FIRST LOSS BY WALSH IN A TIGHT CONTEST

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio (courtesy of @UrsulineArrows) Walsh University’s Emily Durina scored her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute to propel the visiting Cavaliers past Ursuline College, 1-0, in the Arrows home opener. Walsh improved to 3-0 while the Arrows slid to 2-1.

After neither team scored in the first half, the Cavaliers had a great opportunity early in the second half when the Arrows were whistled for a foul in the box. Molly Martin went one-on-one with senior goalkeeper Rachael Smith, but couldn’t beat her and the contest remained deadlocked at 0-0 until Durina provided the only tally just minutes later, scoring off the right post.

Ursuline attacked the Walsh zone all afternoon, but couldn’t convert on any of the opportunities against the Walsh goalkeeping duo of Taylor Stano and Michaella Stucky. The Arrows attempted seven shots, four of which were just steps from the goal line, but the Cavalier goalkeepers and defense made all the saves and clears necessary to earn the win.

Smith made three stops while defending the home goal, but was dealt the first loss of the young season.

CEDARVILLE FALLS 2-1 WITH JUST SECONDS REMAINING IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - (courtesy of @CUYellowJackets) Ohio Dominican netted a goal with two seconds left in the second overtime to shock Cedarville, 2-1, in a non-conference women's soccer match.

The two teams had all but settled for a draw before the Panthers were awarded one last throw in even with the top of the penalty area. The ball caromed out to where it was played to the far past for a one-time finish to end it. The Lady Jackets completed their season-opening three-match homestand winless. ODU is 3-1.

CU broke through first when freshman Jacoby Ziegler scored her first collegiate goal and the first of the campaign for the Jackets. She got the better part of a scrum in the box and poked a seven-yarder past the keeper in the 5th minute. It stayed 1-0 until the 58th minute. The Panthers headed home a free kick from 25 yards out to level the match.

ODU had the edge in shots overall 18-12 and shots on goal 8-7. Alysia Bennett made six saves in goal. Cedarville now embarks on a six-match road swing and does not return home until Oct. 2 with a date against Wheeling Jesuit.

URBANA DROPS ROAD CONTEST 1-0 IN OVERTIME TO MERCYHURST

ERIE, Pennsylvania - (courtesy of @UUSports) The Urbana University women's soccer team has just one goal through the team's first four games, and as a result are currently 0-4 on the season.  The dormant offense cost the Blue Knights again on Saturday in a 1-0 overtime loss at Mercyhurst University.

For over 95 minutes, the Blue Knight defense, headed by senior goalkeeper Meghan Taucher, kept the Lakers at bay in a 0-0 tie.  Taucher made nine saves to give her teammates a chance, but the offense only managed six shots against Mercyhurst.

The Lakers capitalized on their first shot of the overtime period.  Janine Wong received a pass from Gabrielle Catrabone and beat Taucher in the top right corner for the lone goal of the game.
