Wilson selected NCCAA National Player of the Year

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Sophomore centerfielder Kelsey Wilson has been named the 2012 NCCAA Softball National Player of the Year and heads up the All-America First Team.

Rookie pitcher Cecelia DeBartolo was selected to the All-America Second Team, Shelby Young nabbed a spot on the national all-tournament team, and Kenleigh Ludlow is an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete.

Wilson, a native of Bloomington, Ill., is the first Lady Jacket player to earn the honor. She is also the first in school history to be a two-time NCCAA All-America First Team performer in softball.

Wilson started all 58 games for the Jackets, who finished 35-23, repeated as NCCAA Midwest Region champions, and returned to the national tournament. She batted .497 which is the second-best single-season mark at CU and ranked third in the country this spring in NCAA Division II.

Wilson set new single-season school records for runs scored (54), hits (92), singles (68), and total bases (129). She sports a .460 career batting average in two years at Cedarville.

DeBartolo, a freshman righthander from Cedarville, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA All-America Second Team. She was 19-12 in the circle with a 2.20 ERA.

DeBartolo appeared in 36 games with school-records of 31 starts and 184 2/3 innings pitched. She posted 22 complete games and her 19 wins tied for the second-highest at CU in a season.

Young, a sophomore outfielder from Greenwood, Ind., was selected to the NCCAA National All-Tournament Team. Ludlow, a junior utility player from Fort Loramie, Ohio, was recognized as an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete. The program honors juniors and seniors with a minimum 3.40 cumulative grade point average.
