NASHVILLE - On Saturday, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference crowned its first-ever Women’s Soccer Conference Champion as top seeded Trevecca Nazarene University completed a perfect season, going 3-0 in the regular-season and 2-0 in the tournament to claim the team’s first G-MAC title.
After scoring twice in the first half, and adding an insurance goal in the second half to make the score 3-0, the Trojans closed out the Ursuline College Arrows to earn the conference trophy.
In the first half, TNU struck quickly with two goals just two minutes apart from each other in the 23rd minute and the 25th minute. Both goals came on long passes to the middle, with a couple touches and easily putting it past a goalkeeper with no help in the one-on-one situations.
The Arrows tried to climb back into the game, but couldn’t crack a defense that was by far the strongest in the conference all season, allowing just nine goals all year through 18 games (including the G-MAC tournament).
The first goal came from Brooke Gann, her 10th of the season, from Kayla VanEs, who passed the ball to the center and the shot came from the left side of the box sliding past the goalie into the right side of the net. The second goal, two minutes and three seconds later, came from Becky Bartos, who again found a pass from Kayla VanEs in the center, dribble a couple times and shot the ball from about eight yards out into the left corner.
In the 50th minute, Gann struck again, this time getting a deflected pass from Lindsey Robinson, which Gann put into the left side of the net to cap the scoring for the Trojans.
Trevecca ends the season at 12-3-3, while runner-up Ursuline fell to 11-6.
