G-MAC HIGHLIGHT: Cedarville's Overtime Win

10.2.12

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - (courtesy of @CUYellowJackets) Cedarville's Jacoby Ziegler deflected in a shot by Sara Rogers in the 96th minute to give Cedarville a 3-2 overtime win against Wheeling Jesuit in the women’s first home match in nearly a month.

Rogers took a pass from Elise Hurley and launched a shot from the right flank some 25 yards away. Ziegler actually attempted to elude the ball from 10 yards in front of the net, however, it ricocheted off of her leg and the surprising misdirection beat the Cardinal goalkeeper on the near post.

The home turf was a welcome relief for the Lady Jackets, 3-7 overall, who had played six-straight road matches since Sept. 8, of which they have dropped their last three. CU got off to a good start in the 25th minute when Carly Gregory finished a loose ball in the box from 15 yards out for her first collegiate goal, giving Cedarville an early 1-0 lead.

Wheeling Jesuit equalized the game at 1-1 just three minutes later, but CU needed less than two minutes to regain the lead on a free kick that caromed to Kristie Wolff, who in turn found the net from the left side and it was 2-1 at the break.

The Cardinals, 2-8-1, again leveled the match in the 52nd minute at 2-2. It stayed that way through regulation until six minutes into the 10-minute overtime, when Ziegler’s winner won the game.

Cedarville dominated the stats, holding the advantage in shots, 20-3, and shots on goal, 10-2.
