G-MAC HIGHLIGHT: TNU Coach earns 100th win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Trevecca Nazarene University (16-11) volleyball dismissed Covenant College (16-6) in three straight giving Trevecca Head Coach Jayme Crowley her 100th win at Trevecca. Trevecca defeated the Scots 25-20, 25-19, 25-20. Prior to the Covenant match, the University of the Cumberlands (12-6) dealt Trevecca its first home loss of the season winning 25-20, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-23.

Jayme Crowley, in her fifth season at Trevecca, has a 100-71 overall.

Match One - Cumberlands

Persephonie Devereaux led the Trojans with a match-high 14 kills. Kristen Johnson recorded a triple-double with 10 kills, 20 assists and 16 digs. Loren Bennett led the TNU defense with 27 digs while Caroline Gay handed out 17 assists.

In the first set, which featured 10 ties and eight lead changes, both teams traded points back and forth until the score was tied 20-20.  Then, the Patriots would close out the first set with a service ace from Chelsea Hendrix, a kill by Kalman and three errors by the Trojans.

Trevecca would respond in set two going on a 5-0 run to take a 10-5. The Trojans would go up as many as eight points (15-7) following a Jenna Robertson ace.  The Patriots would bring the deficit to three points (18-15) following a Hendrix ace, but it would be the closest they would get. TNU prevailed 25-21.

University of the Cumberlands would pick up a crucial set win in the third.  Trailing 4-2, the Patriots would go on a 13-3 run to take an eight-point advantage over the Trojans.  Sebald added three kills during the run. The Trojans would pull to within a five-point deficit three times, but could not tie the set.

In the fourth and final set, there were seven ties and four lead changes.  Following an over-the-shoulder hit by Gay that tied the match at 15, the Patriots would go on 4-1 run to take a lead for good.  The Trojans pulled with two points of UC but could not tie the match.

Match Two - Covenant

Jenna Robertson led the way with a 16 kill effort against the Scots. Her .433 attack percentage was a little better than Kristen Johnson who topped out at .423 and 12 kills. Johnson added 14 assists and eight digs. Caroline Gay led in assists with 19 while Loren Bennett (14) and Shelby Sorce (13) were one and two in digs.

As a team Trevecca peaked in the second set with a .436 attack percentage when they had 19 kills and just two errors in 39 chances.

Trevecca returns to action Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. as they host Union University (4-13) for Dig Pink Night.
